Project: Dinosaurus Biscuits
Lotus asked us to work with them on a new product development for sandwiched biscuits. The famous biscuit and cake manufacturer had created a new aerated filling and we were briefed to work with their biscuit team to design the actual biscuit itself.
In addition, we were asked to create a packaging design that would appeal to their target audience of youngsters, creating a great shelf impact and building on an emotional with our young biscuit lowers and their mums alike. The design should feature certain unifiers with their existing flat biscuit Dinosaurus packaging but still clear differentiate at FMOT, communicating the new product.
To create something playful and engaging, it was immediately obvious to us that we had to flip the packaging design to stand tall like a dinasour vs. the exisiting line-up in landscape format. This would already create a bigger impact at shelf and differentiate vs. the rest of the category. We also wanted to craft a design that could live across 2 or more packs so our dinasour could really roar at shelf. Finally, each pack would contain 6 x 2 individually wrapped biscuit wrappers that should still be appealing and carry over the outer packing design.
Our 4 panel design approach meant that whatever way you stacked our packaging, our newly crafted ‘Dinosaurus’ would be brough to life, both across same variant packaging but also different variants. The temptation to purchase 2 or more packs would hence become irrisitable.
Our ‘Dinosaurus’ should be age appropriate and look friendly vs. scary. It was also important to work with additional loop-team partners to bring his to life across 3D animation for advertising.
After consumer testing, the clear winner was our cookie munching big and bright T-rex, popular with both children and mums alike as he looked full of fun and mischievous. A roaring success across all touch-points, our ‘Dinosaurus’ biscuits soon became a firm family snack-time favourite!
